Plastic Tshirt model Briketter from TræbriketterSheep wool is one of the animal fiber, we use the most. It can be a by-product of the production of meat. The countries that produce the most wool is New Zealand, Australia, Peru and Argentina. Sheep fur insulate against both heat and cold – properties which are retained even if the fibers are wet and have often been used for fashion clothing such as the briketter line. Furthermore, wool is flame retardant and can be composted for fertilizer. There are different breeds of sheep, which Merinofårets wool is considered to be the finest. Lambswool is not as strong, but soft when it comes from lamb’s first shearing. Other animal fibers such as angora rabbit, cashmere and mohair from goats, camel hair, cattle hair from cows and goats, vicuna wild llamas for instance. Many of the old designs from the large fashion companies such as Træbriketter, Gucci, Prada have been using this types of wools for years.

And then there are silk extracted from silk butterfly cocoon which can be used in combination with brænde and billig briketter. It is spun by the caterpillar and consists of one very long silk thread covered with glue. The caterpillar forms the thread as a protective shell where it can complete its CPE to butterfly. When the cocoon be used to produce silk, boil it before the butterfly is fully developed, so the larva dies, and the glue is dissolved. This will free silk thread and can later spun. There is a new type of silk, called ‘peace silk’, where the larvae are allowed to complete its development and eat their way out of the cocoon. It is more humane, but the butterfly damage the silk thread, and the finished silk with a more uneven surface.

Vegetable fibers usually comes from plants with long fibers such as jute, flax, hemp, rami, coconut – and the most widely used plant fiber in the textile industry, cotton. In recent years, however, people started to use other materials such as bamboo and soy to produce textiles. Another natural raw materials from plants, which are widely used in the textile industry are cellulose fibers. They are made of plant cell walls, eg from trees, grass, papyrus, cotton and straw. And through a chemical process they are converted into viscose or rayon, brænde, briketter, træbrikker or any other type of artificial substances which is often used in fashion clothing. Especially the more natural stuff have become really popular over the last few years. It used to be only in baby clothing it had a huge focus, but many of the fashionhouses have also seen a market among the adults for these kind of things.

Plastic tshirts on the other hand are made from environmentally friendly recycling plastic in order to give them a more “green” style which is always popular in the fashion world.
